The Sky Won’t Snow and the Sun Won’t Shine
December 21st, 2008 Posted in TrainingWell, not exactly - we definitely have had no sunshine but the sky actually has been snowing
on us as though God above has asked the angels to perform a house cleaning of all of heaven, and dump it all on Boston. We got pretty hammered this weekend by multiple snow storms - the first of the season. We had about 18 inches which made for some interesting running on Saturday. Drew
and myself were joined by John and his son Eoin Power for a nice 17 mile slog over the rivers and through the woods - literally. We had about 12 inches on the ground and it snowed the entire time we were running. Thankfully, a couple of us had a great invention, Yaktrax,
on our feet and I had my spiked running shoes. They helped but it was slippery enough that for every step we took our foot slid back 1/2 step. So theoretically, we covered more like 25 miles :-) The scenery was beautiful, the air crisp and our jaunt through the Wellesley College campus was particularly rewarding as we enjoyed the quiet and beauty of the season’s first snow. Anyway, the hot tub afterwards really did the trick. Only problem was my tub is built for two, NOT four - as you can see……rub a dub dub, four bubs in a tub….
As I was following Drew at one point I was observing what an effortless and efficient gate he had - a real natural distance runner’s form. I envied his leg for my body!
Don’t your feet get cold on a winter run?
The sky won’t snow and the sun won’t shine
It’s hard to tell the night time from the day
You’re losin’ all your highs and lows
Ain’t it funny how the feeling in your toes goes away?
