Training Hood #3 - Weston Woods (MA)

February 3rd, 2009 Posted in Training

Well, I saved my neighborhood running for last.  Weston is known for its innovative and proactive land management.  Town leaders have preserved hundreds of miles of pristine trails over the past 100 years for all to enjoy.  The exceptional public schools was a top priority for Marcy and I in choosing Weston as our home, but the access to this extensive trail network right outside our door (literally) was definitely a factor too!

Click on the video player below for a small sample of the kind of trails I get to enjoy.  This one is across the street from our home in what I call Dean Woods. (shot with the DieselCam).

My usual routes include Dean Woods, linked to Ash Street Resorvoir, linked to Regis Woods, linked to Love Lane Trails, linked to Jerico and Campion Woods.  I can get a solid 2-3 hour run in almost exclusively on single track trails and I’ve only scratched the surface of trails available.

As you can see, this winter’s trail running has been all about adjusting to the snow.  It’s been covering the trails since mid-December and there does not appear to be any letting up for the forseeable future.   It is beautiful running in the woods after a new fallen snow…..and great for the quads - lots of high stepping!  I’m also getting plenty of night running in since my morning runs in VT are usualy before sunrise.  So I’ll be prepared for any snow between Squaw Valley and Robinson Flat and all that night running between Rucky Chucky and the finish.  One less thing to worry about……

Sometimes I forget just how close Weston is (this campus can seem like its own little world…). Excellent pictures, but more importantly, you sound like you’re enjoying yourself. Keep up the good work!
PS- Muchos gracias para mis snowpants el otro dia! Hasta luego…
